Mark M. Applefeld, M.D., is Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Mercy Medical Center as well the Director of The Heart Center at Mercy. Dr. Applefeld is also Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A graduate of Washington and Lee University, Dr. Applefeld earned his medical degree, Cum Laude, from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After completing his internship and residency in Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital, Dr. Applefeld performed his fellowship in Cardiology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He then served as Chief Resident in Medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital. Dr. Applefeld is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. He is a former president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Heart Association as well as a member of other professional associations including Alpha Omega Alpha, American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, and Maryland Society of Cardiology. Board Certified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Applefeld's particular interests are clinical cardiology, heart failure, and cardiac disease in cancer patients. He has authored numerous publications, participated in editorial review boards and has lectured extensively nationally. Monica Aggarwal , M.D.
Monica Aggarwal, M.D., is Board Certified in Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Aggarwal received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the New England Medical Center in Boston, MA. She completed her Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Aggarwal has numerous clinical publications, national presentations and honors to her credit. She is a member of Women in Cardiology as well as the American College of Cardiology, and has served as Co-Director of the Women’s Heart Program at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Aggarwal has a particular interest in nuclear cardiology, transesophageal echocardiography and women’s health care issues. Brian Kahn, M.D.Brian Kahn, M.D., FACC, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Kahn earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Union Memorial Hospital before earning his fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Kahn is a member of the Baltimore City Medical Society and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Kahn sees patients at The Heart Center at Overlea located at 7602 Belair Road. Amish C. Sura, M.D., an invasive cardiologist in The Heart Center at Mercy, earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Sura completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and performed his fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical School. Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, Dr. Sura is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Internal Medicine.
Robert V. Zawodny, M.D.
Robert V. Zawodny, M.D., is the Director of Invasive Cardiology in The Heart Center at Mercy. Dr. Zawodny earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and his fellowship in Cardiology at the same institution. Dr. Zawodny is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology.
